The Color Of Duplicity
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 15 April 2004
FMeekins sent us this: "During the time of year from mid-January now through March it seems there is something special in the air. No, I am not referring to those feelings of love and romance that are kindled in anticipation of Valentine’s Day and linger after the celebration’s diminution. Rather, I am writing about the stench from the pot of hypocritical sentiments that gets stirred up as part of Black History Season."

National ID Cards: Not better, not safer
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 15 April 2004
There's an article by Bruce Schneier at StarTribune.com entitled, "Bruce Schneier: A national ID card wouldn't make us safer". It's excellent. "My argument may not be obvious, but it's not hard to follow, either. It centers around the notion that security must be evaluated not based on how it works, but on how it fails." Go read it, grasp it, understand it, pass it on. There's no point in adding on more layers of failure to pathetic attempts at "making us safer."

Tramps For Troops: A Post-Season Analysis
Written by bigpig
Wednesday, 03 March 2004
FMeekins sent us this: "Since the tragedy of September 11, 2001, Americans have exhibited a renewed sense of patriotism and love of country. This sentiment often manifests in a profound admiration and respect for the armed forces of the United States.

As such, most conscientious citizens are reluctant to criticize any policy or charitable effort undertaken in the name of honoring the military. However, the price of liberty is eternal vigilance, and even these gestures must be subject to the eye of scrutiny so as to prevent the denigration of American values, honor, and institutions...."

Lash of Islamic Slavery Still Torments Sudan
Written by bigpig
Friday, 13 February 2004
"For ten years Francis Bok was the slave of Muslim raiders who kidnapped him during a raid that saw his parents and many other villagers murdered in cold blood.

His account in Escape from Slavery is riveting and reveals the indomitable human spirit that seeks to be free."

All America Needs Next Christmas Is A New Backbone
Written by bigpig
Monday, 26 January 2004
"One might hypothesize that the health of a culture could be determined in part by gauging to what degree those in positions of influence and authority embrace the traditions and beliefs upon which the society rests or the amount of embarrassment these figures exhibit by distancing themselves from these once-cherished notions. If this is the case, then from the attitude towards Christmas taken by overseeing elites the Western world is in serious trouble with a considerably less magnanimous competitor poised to assert the cultural direction those in the realm once known as Christendom no longer seem willing to exhibit." The Brady Bunch Visits Wonderland Once Again
Written by bigpig
Monday, 19 January 2004
"The Brady Campaign has asked us to believe the impossible ... yet again.

Every January, the gun control group issues a state report card, giving each state a grade on the basis of their gun laws.

But one look at their report card reveals that the grades have nothing to do with how safe people are in the state."

Our "Ally" to the South
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 15 January 2004
Anonymous sent us this: "So, you were thinking about a trip to the Grand Canyon. Or maybe you are planning to retire to the sunny deserts of Arizona? Not if our Mexican ally has anything to say about it. Recent opinion poles report that over 62% of Mexican citizens see the American southwest as rightfully part of Mexico. Facilitating illegal immigration into the United States is actually a POLICY of the Mexican government. And, Mexican separatist organizations have cropped up in EVERY southwestern university, many high schools, and almost every large city. Evidently, the last 160 years of the southwest being part of the United States, and the fact Mexico could never get anyone to actually live in Northern Mexico when it was under their control has little bearing on their territorial claims.

Mexicans, as a culture, suffer from a machismo complex. They have to be the toughest, most powerful, violent wife beaters in the world with the highest number of mistresses in order to feel any sense of self worth. If they are confronted with an adversary that they perceive as WEAK (a.k.a. the United States) then their victory should be assured simply on the grounds of their “maleness”. Then, God forbid if they lose. Just like the Islamists, or any group from a Third World male dominated culture, the Mexicans have allowed their “humiliation” to fester into hatred and a cancer in their society."

IRS Moves to Threaten Second Amendment Newsletters, E-mail
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 15 January 2004
"The ink is barely dry on the Supreme Court's devastating decision in McConnell v. FEC -- the so-called campaign finance case that GOA was involved in. That decision severely restricted broadcast communications, thus making it more difficult for GOA to hold legislators accountable on Second Amendment issues.

Now, the IRS is already leaping forward to expand the Court's ruling to include GOA newsletters, e-mail alerts, and other Second Amendment communications."

Did Gun Control Lead to September 11?
Written by bigpig
Tuesday, 13 January 2004
"Near the Canadian border in Boundary County, Idaho during August of 1992, the federal government went berserk. At Ruby Ridge Randy Weaver suffered the loss of his wife and son -- neither of whom had committed a crime -- to government agents.

The feds brought about an even worse debacle in Waco the next year, and other less breathtaking abuses of power have occurred with disturbing frequency."

Drama Queen Crowned King Of The Jungle
Written by bigpig
Tuesday, 13 January 2004
FMeekins sent us this: "This should come as no surprise, but Kelly from Animal Planet’s “King Of The Jungle” won that show’s prize of having one’s own special on that network. My loyal readers will recall her as the ditzy blonde mentioned in Ecovangelism: Is Animal Planet The Next PTL? who confirmed it really is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt when she blurted to the effect she did not think herself superior to any animal." OnStar Online to U.S. Government
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 04 December 2003
Bob Barr writes in the Hawaii Reporter, "Yes, I know; I've heard the tear-jerk ads on the radio with the plaintive voices of supposedly real wives, mothers, and metro-sexual-sounding men fearing for their lives because they've locked themselves out of their cars and have called OnStar so someone can get them out of the jam into which they've put themselves. Still, I've not been convinced the loss of privacy is worth the remote possibility that I would find myself in a life-threatening situation from which the only possible salvation would be my ability to reach out and touch an OnStar employee." Here's the full story.

Written by bigpig
Wednesday, 03 December 2003
by Erich Pratt "In the town of Geuda Springs, the town council recently passed an ordinance requiring every resident to own a firearm. And that had some people making the direst predictions... Gun accidents will increase, they claimed. Murders will be up."

Why Blacks Tend To Support Gun Control
Written by bigpig
Wednesday, 26 November 2003
by Larry Pratt, "The conversion of Rev. Lee Peterson is a remarkable story. A black sharecropper's son, he ended up in Los Angeles. There, he fell under the spell of the teachings of the Nation of Islam and other hate-based doctrines of the Jesse Jackson's of the world."

A Review Of "Pilgrims And Puritans (1620-1676)"
Written by bigpig
Tuesday, 18 November 2003
FMeekins sent us this: "

The Brothers Collier begin their Pilgrims and Puritans (1620-1676) by observing of American history texts in general, “Students become lost in a swamp of factual information, and as a consequence lose track of how those facts fit together, and why they are significant and relevant to the world today...We believe that it is surely more important for students to grasp underlying concepts and ideas that emerge from the movement of history than to memorize an array of facts and figures.”..."

A Review Of "The Children Of Men" by P.D. James
Written by bigpig
Tuesday, 18 November 2003
FMeekins sent us this: "Often the appeal of science fiction lies in the genre’s ability to extrapolate from the trends of the present and project them into the future. One novel exemplifying this tendency is The Children Of Men by P.D. James. "

If The Allegation Of Genocide Fits, Wear It
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 30 October 2003
FMeekins sent us this: "Imagine, if you will, a parallel universe not unlike our own but noticeably different, or --- better yet --- maybe even our own world several decades or even a century hence. In this hypothetical realm, the fundamental liberties of an entire class of individuals are systematically violated since these people do not measure up to the criteria delineating what constitutes a human being by either possessing undesirable features or unacceptable origins. A number of conscientious citizens, realizing that all men are created equal with certain inalienable rights such as life and liberty, regardless of arbitrary characteristics without reference to individual innocence, use peaceable tactics of speech and assembly to persuade their countrymen as to the moral impropriety of the position enshrined as official policy."

by Larry Pratt, "Mason Weaver was a sixties radical who got a degree in Black Studies at Merritt College in Oakland, CA and learned Swahili... Today, Weaver is a conservative, and students can get in a whole bunch of trouble just for posting a flyer announcing his appearance on campus." Oh, yeah, it's worth reading.

Written by bigpig
Friday, 03 October 2003
FMeekins sent us this: "Though it might not be obvious upon first glance, both politics and cinema are actually different sides of the same coin. Both of these forms of performance employ an engaging narrative structure for the purpose of conveying how those crafting these dramas see ultimate truths manifesting themselves in the lives of individuals." ... read the rest by clicking below.
