DEAN: CHAMPION OF THE ENVIRONMENT? |
|
Written by bigpig

|
Wednesday, 10 September 2003 |
Anonymous sent us this: "It took a while but many Americans are finally taking note of the former Vermont Governor seeking a bid for the US Presidency. He is slowly taking shape as the strongest nominee for the Democratic Party, and he’s out campaigning like it’s September 2004 instead of September 2003.
With many are hoping for an environmental alternative to the pro-business Bush administration, Dean seems like the logical choice. But hold the presses. This presidential hopeful from the Green Mountain State, doesn’t have the most green of records." read the rest.

Praying Hands Are Folded, Not Sat Upon |
|
Written by bigpig

Wednesday, 10 September 2003 |
FMeekins sent us this: "
In Christian practice, during prayer hands are traditionally held in an upright position with fingers interlaced in a folded manner. The origins of this posture probably originate somewhere along the boundary between legend and antiquity; but upon examining it, it is evident that the gesture is conductive to any swift action that might need to be undertaken upon conclusion of petitioning the Almighty. However, if some Christians had their way, the hands might end up being sat upon since they seem to conclude nothing else needs to be done to fulfill the mandates of the divine economy." read the rest

The Conservative Argument for Legalizing Marijuana |
|
Written by bigpig
|
|
Wednesday, 23 July 2003 |
Some anonymous induhvidiual submitted the whole text of the article Respect for the Law Going up in Smoke, the conservative - not libertarian - argument for legalizing marijuana. "Thoughtful conservatives have long agonized over the issue of the legalization of marijuana. For libertarians the issue has always been rather easy. Their position is that any adult individual has the right to ingest any drug provided that the user is fully informed of the nature of the substance and that only criminal behavior per se should be punished. Conservatives have a harder time being as cavalier about the issue for a number of sound reasons." It's worth reading. It's a discussion we need, badly, to have.

FMeekins has submitted another great article: "The laws of physics teach that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Something similar could be said in the realm of political thought as many traditional rights can be exercised in an almost Taoist fashion, meaning they can be actively or passively employed. For example, one enjoys the benefits of the Second Amendment whether one becomes an enthusiastic sharpshooter or abstains from firearms totally as an avid pacifist." If you're a former President of the United States, having held office for eight years, inherited the strongest growing economy in your life time, squandered it and the eight years getting ["intimate favors"] from interns and blindly chunking million-dollar missiles at the Middle East in a pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey fashion based on flawed intelligence from the intelligence community you raped, got yourself impeached for perjuring yourself in Congress and in Court, how do you try to build a legacy?
Why, you criticize your successor, of course! [...] Read the rest...

Seven Washington Citizens File Challenge To DC Anti-Guns Law |

Written by bigpig

Tuesday, 15 April 2003 |
Larry Pratt (Gun Owners of America): Shelly Parker is one of seven plaintiffs who has gone to U.S. District Court in our Nation's capital to challenge Washington DC's anti-gun laws which blatantly infringe the Constitutionally protected right of private citizens to keep and bear arms. In a sworn statement to the Court explaining why she wants to possess a functional handgun in her home for self-defense, Parker says, in part: "[...] On the night of February 12, 2003, the date on which the Washington Times carried a front-page article about this lawsuit and my role in it, a drug dealer I knew as "Nanook" started banging on my door and tried to pry his way into my house, repeatedly yelling, "bitch, I'll kill you, I live on this block, too."" Russia's Complicity in Terrorism |
|
Written by bigpig

Saturday, 12 April 2003 |
The Telegraph has obtained Iraqi documents that show Russia's willing complicity to Iraq's active state terrorism.
Moscow also provided Saddam with lists of assassins available for "hits" in the West and details of arms deals to neighbouring countries. The two countries also signed agreements to share intelligence, help each other to "obtain" visas for agents to go to other countries and to exchange information on the activities of Osama bin Laden, the al-Qa'eda leader.[...] Read the rest and comment

France and Canada vying for membership in Axis of Evil? |

Saturday, 12 April 2003 |
France: In October, Mr. Chirac attended a "Francophone Summit" in Beirut with many Arab leaders. Lebanese President Emile Lahhud opened it with a speech the National Post of Canada described as "a screed against Israel's existence." Sheikh Nasrallah, chairman of Hezbollah, sat in the front row. At the end of the event, reported Beirut's Tele-Liban TV, "Chirac congratulated President Lahhud again on his exceptional performance during the Francophone Summit."[...]
Canada: On Wednesday, Cellucci said he found it "incomprehensible" that Canadian ships patrolling the Gulf as part of the war against terrorism had instructions not to automatically hand over to U.S. authorities any Iraqi soldiers or members of the Iraqi government that they might come across. FMeekins sent us this: "Moral relativism contends that principles change depending upon the situation. It also becomes a convenient tool by which to justify political correct causes while condemning others for pursuing courses of action one does not agree with.

In the Dixie Chicks ditty “Goodbye Earl” an abused wife and her friend conspire to kill her wretch of a husband and ultimately carry through with the plan. In the real world, the group’s lead singer told a London audience that the trio was ashamed President Bush was from Texas." Read the rest below

What an ungrateful World? |

Wednesday, 09 April 2003 |
"It was true then and it is truer now." G.K. Sayegh shares his passionate views of the world with us, "The world is a stage, and on this stage I would like to claim my moment of presenting the facts with this open letter to all the inhabitants of the globe. The global catastrophe that took place on September 11th was fueled by an ungrateful world, which decided to bite the American hand that lays their golden egg, and, in most cases, served it to them." It's a passionate and interesting read. Read on.

It's a beautiful thing.
I pray for you today as you begin to embrace the responsibilities of the freedom you are just now tasting. After decades of brutality, I hope you soon find the joy of playing part in your own destiny.

Putting things into perspective |

If you've got time, get a solid perspective on history by reading this. If you don't have time, make time!
"There’s nothing I can say about the parade of still pictures, the faces on the television – except, perhaps, that they all seemed to share a fierce pride in their eyes, photographed for the first time in their Marine Dress Blues. Surely their families are proud of them. I certainly am, and I never got to know any of them. And now, I never will."
This essay takes the long view on why we have to fight this war, and why we have to win it.

Collumnist Burt Prelutsky writes that Conservatives Are From Mars (Liberals Are From San Francisco). "I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been finding it harder and harder to avoid thinking badly about liberals. I keep having to remind myself that I know any number of them that I like personally - including a couple of U.S. congressmen I've been friends with since college days - but, more and more these days, I find I have to limit conversational topics to movies, baseball and the weather, lest their lack of logic and common sense incite me to riot."

The Sacred Right to Be Stupid |
|
Written by bigpig
|
|
Tuesday, 25 March 2003 |
"Jack Dunphy" writes in the National Review Online about our The Sacred Right to Be Stupid: "How's this for irony: a small army of cops, myself reluctantly among them, traipsing through the streets of Hollywood on Sunday, preventing the assembled antiwar protesters from invading the annual orgy of self-congratulation that is the Academy Awards. That's right, we were protecting the highly paid pacifist pinheads inside from the unemployed pacifist pinheads outside. Had it been left up to me, we would have let the rabble storm up Highland Avenue and right into the Kodak Theater to do what mischief they may. In addition to the personal gratification such a spectacle would have offered, it might well have given a needed boost to the television ratings, said to be the lowest in history. (If any network executives are reading this, they're stroking their chins and saying, "Hmmm, sounds like a 60 share.") But as it was, we did our job and things came off without a hitch, thereby providing Michael Moore with the opportunity to prove to the world, or to those few people still unaware of the fact, that he is an arrogant simpleton." It's a great read.

Sun hits the chicken ship
COWARDLY French sailors are enjoying a holiday on the Thames — while our brave boys and girls risk their lives to topple Saddam.
Crew of the coastal patrol vessel FS Flamant are unashamedly flying a Tricolour while moored in central London.
So The Sun steamed into action yesterday by blitzing them with white feathers — the coward’s symbol.

Is Saddam Alive? Dead? Do we really care? |

Monday, 24 March 2003 |
It occurred to me this morning that something isn't adding up about all this noise about Saddam, his TV appearances, tapes, battles, statements... Maybe he really is alive, we know it, and we're just not admitting it.
What would infuriate a megalomaniac like Saddam Hussein more than the United States government knowing he was alive, but constantly bantering about prerecorded messages, conjecture about him being alive or dead, questioning who was in charge of his military? Nothing, and Donnald Rumsfield knows that. What do you think? Read the rest, tell us what you think.
