FMeekins sent us this: "The thrill of another school year is in the air as stores across America hope to put customers in the scholastic mood with strategically placed displays of academic paraphernalia. Little do these merchants realize that these implements of elucidation might not even be used by the progeny of those purchasing these items."

FMeekins sent us this: "On "The Simpson's", the wife of Springfield's resident clergyman Reverend Lovejoy is known to rally support for initiatives of questionable logic by injecting herself into a scene and intoning in a shrill voice, "Think of the children." While this recurring gag has provided a sense of comedy throughout the run of this classic series, it's humor, unfortunately, is derived from the often ludicrous nature of contemporary political discourse/" As always, Fred feeds us some good thought fodder. My bud, Jay, shot me this link to a story over at SEE Beyond the Obvious about the 16th anniversary of Kannesaw, GA's manditory firearms posession law. Everybody's got a gun, and Crime is trying to approach zero. What was Sarah Brady saying?

Anonymous sent us this: "I am writing to air some concerns over the state of subsidized housing in Boston. Given the nature of Boston’s tight rental market, and the coverage of housing in the press, I feel amount of abuse, fraud and corruption prevalent in today’s subsidized properties must be made public. I recently resigned from my position as Property Manager due to my disgust of this abuse. I have managed several properties for a mid-sized mangement company in New England for a number of years. I have managed and administered subsidy programs in tax credit, cooperative and HUD sponsored section 8 properties. These include 800+ units throughout Boston and Providence and include an annual budget of $1.7 million." Anonymous closes with an invitation to e-mail him/her, but does not provide an e-mail address to do so.... oh well, it's a good read.

FMeekins sent us this: "Most columns --- though no doubt read --- do not usually generate enough response worthy of additional comment. One exception though tends to be those addressing the debates that have arisen surrounding national holidays as American culture grows increasingly fractious and divided."

FMeekins sent us this: "Americans honor the Fourth of July to commemorate the document that spelled-out our rights to the world at large and to remember the conflict that helped make those rights a viable political reality. However, to some, those values and sentiments embodied by this civic celebration should be shunned when they do not conform to prevailing liberal sensibilities....."

FMeekins sent us this: "The stable of magazines published by Focus on the Family normally stand as reliable and reasonable sources of information regarding many moral issues with public consequences. However, one suggestion tucked away in the June 2002 edition of Citizen Magazine came awfully close to betraying the canons of common sense usually promoted in the pages of this periodical."

FMeekins sent us this: "Matthew 7:16-17 says, "Ye shall know them by their fruits... Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit." Even though various groups gathered in Washington, DC to express their positions regarding a number of issues facing the nation ranging from the Israeli/Palestinian conflict to support (or lack thereof) for the war on terror, these rallies may have proven more instructive in providing the American people with insight into the deportment of these respective activists and how their respective ideologies might manifest themselves in a concrete social situation. KKK Hoods at the Corcoran Museum in Washington DC |

Anonymous sent us this: "There are 8 Ku Klux Klan hoods made of various patterned fabrics hanging from wall mounted flagpoles inside the Corcoran Museum of Fine Art. There is an African weave hood, one using the patterned fabric worn by Yasser Arafat, a wool pinstriped hood, a red satin one and even a white one with artist brushes sticking out of the sides. All were made prior to september 11, so these are not in response to recent events (ie. the WW tower collapse, the Catholic church sex scandal or the Student artist mail box bomber)." FMeekins sent us this: "Use to be that expectant parents accepted whatever gifts the beneficent chose to bestow upon the pending bundles of joy. But as with other values and social conventions that once guided personal behavior, this one too has been set aside by those seeking to revel in the intoxicating abandon of reckless self-absorption. For it seems there often exists a startling congruence between those lacking in taste and those deficient in individual character." Read the rest...

FMeekins sent us this: "Though America's Islamic adversaries might claim to be fighting for their own values in their own way, truth and fairness obviously fail to rank high among them. For while Islamic activists dare anyone to speak ill of their cherished faith, it seems they have no intentions of bestowing the same pluralistic courtesies they expect for themselves upon their American, Christian, or Jewish counterparts."

$bob$ sent us this: "Doesn't it make you proud? Jessie Jackson has added former Chicago democratic congressman Mel Reynolds to the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's payroll. Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree. Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a-half year sentence for fraud, bank fraud & lies to the Federal Election Commission. He is more notorious; however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer. This is a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate, then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate.
His new job?
YOUTH COUNSELOR! Is this a great country or what?"

Anonymous sent us this: " Each year I write at least one column detailing the ongoing assault against Christmas throughout Western society. Usually this affront is led by a gaggle of secularists, liberals, and multiculturalists. However, this year there seems to be a festering opposition led by certain Christians to the yuletide season. Even though these criticisms have not yet risen to the level of disruptive street theater engaged in by their unbelieving counterparts, they nevertheless reveal a somewhat dubious ecclesio-social philosophy."
