Like Father, Like Son: Will The President Embrace His Herita
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 24 March 2005
It is assumed that a president in his second term has less to lose since he is not eligible for reelection and as such possesses a greater opportunity to assert himself in terms of policy than many consider prudent for a Commander-And-Chief in the first term. In a time of war, one would assume this would mean the President would come down harder upon the enemies of the nation vowing to wipe the United States from the face of the earth.

Regardless of one’s opinion of President Bush, one has to admit at certain moments in the war on terror he has spoken with refreshing bluntness uncharacteristic of a politician holding public office. However, as the President prepared to commence upon his second term he backpedaled and seemed to say some things that could be construed as embracing the Kerryite doctrine of waging a “more sensitive war”.

According to President Bush in his pre-inaugural Barbara Walters interview, he regretted having said in reference to the Iraqi insurgents “to bring it on” and that he wanted Osama Bin Ladin “Dead or alive”. While his feelings regarding the Iraqi insurgents are understandable in light of the tragic deaths of American servicemen serving as a testament that these savages were not as easy to neutralize as originally assessed, why in the world should anyone feel bad about wanting Osama Bin Ladin brought in dead or alive?

State University Needs Lesson In Priorities
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 24 March 2005
In the propaganda put out by governments at all levels, considerable emphasis is often placed on the importance of education and the respect those in public office profess to have for their fellow civil servants pursuing the subdued honors of educating the next generation rather than the more obvious glories of elected position.

In the state of Maryland, such lofty sentiments about aiding in the dispersion of knowledge are little more than beguiling words when it comes to putting the state’s money where the mouths of the politicians are. [ read the rest ]

Simpsons Episode On Gay Marriage Not As A Flaming An Outrage
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 10 March 2005
When most heard sodomite matrimony was coming to the quintessential American town of Springfield, most assumed the abomination would be heralded with typical Hollywood applause and accolades. And though I would be uncomfortable with letting younger children view the episode, it was not without humorous aspects exposing the hypocrisy inherent to this social outrage.

For gay nuptials were not ultimately sanctioned in this fictional municipality out of a warped interpretation of love or equity but rather in an attempt to bring back lost tourist dollars after Bart and Milhaus create a bad impression of the town in the mind of a roving travel correspondent. Homer gets into the money making racket by getting ordained and opening a wedding chapel in his garage.

Student Seeks To End Summertime Mental Enslavement
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 10 February 2005
While the case of a student suing his school on the grounds that summer homework ruined his vacation might not be the best use of the nation's overly burdened court system, the lad does have a bit of a point.

On what grounds, exactly, do schools have the right to compel students to complete assignments during those times of the year when students are not under the school's legal authority?

The school claims these requirements are not an undue imposition since they only apply to honors courses in which the plaintiff volunteered to participate.

Government Releases List Of So-Called "Real Colleges"
Written by bigpig
Thursday, 10 February 2005
The government has released a database of colleges accredited in a manner approved by the Department of Education.

The purpose of the database is to serve as a reference to protect employers from hiring those whose credentials come from so-called diploma mills. Often these schools require little more than a check to acquire a degree.

However, the database may also stifle the innovations in distance education that have arisen over the past few years since it equates "unaccredited" with "underhanded". Already the Washington DC Fox affiliate, WTTG Channel 5, is calling it a "List Of Real Colleges and Universities", making no distinction between the unaccredited schools that require a significant amount of work and those that merely accept your check and will even pad your grades based on what one is willing to pay.

GOA On Offense As New Congress Convenes
Written by bigpig
Tuesday, 01 February 2005
With the defeat of the semi-auto ban reauthorization last year, and the election of several new pro-gun Members of Congress, it's time for gun owners to go on offense and demand legislation that advances gun rights nationwide.

One perfect example is H.R. 47, the "Citizens' Self-Defense Act of 2005," introduced by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD). GOA helped author this important bill that would protect those who use guns in self-defense from overzealous or anti-gun prosecutors.

H.R. 47 reaffirms the basic truth that citizens have a right to use a gun in defense of self, family, and home.

This is a Religion of Peace?
Written by bigpig
Monday, 24 January 2005
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a warrior of Islam, has released a tape telegraphing his problems with Democracy. CNN has a partial transcript.

"We have declared a bitter war against democracy and all those who seek to enact it," said the speaker in the 35-minute message.

"Democracy is also based on the right to choose your religion," he said, and that is "against the rule of God."

Very enlightening. Very enlightening, indeed!

Teats For Tots: Holiday Season Gets Whole New Kind Of Ho Ho
Written by bigpig
Monday, 24 January 2005
FMeekins sent us this: "When shoppers head to the store during the Christmas season, it is assumed the price is borne by the party giving the gift. However, should these yuletide bequeathals originate from questionable sources, the price extracted can in fact be too high for the recipient.

Though allegedly an act of selflessness and altruism, the act of gift giving is as much about bringing praise and a sense of self-satisfaction to the giver. The act, in fact, bestows a degree of legitimacy upon the giver in the eyes of the receiver and can boost the ego or esteem of the party giving the gift.

This oft-denied reality bounced to the surface this past Christmas quicker than a Hooter girl on a trampoline when the even more ribald counterparts of these risque serving wenches attempted to create a favorable impression of their questionable profession."

Free from MA!

katdillon sent us this: "Jim Perry in "Escape from Massachusetts"

Fed up with high taxes and the Massachusetts nanny state, Jim Perry joined the United States' fastest-growing freedom movement, the Free State Project, and publicly broke his bonds from big government. To symbolize this event, Jim chained himself to a pole in Massachusetts at its border near Nashua. Freestaters at the event witnessed thousands of cars pouring in to New Hampshire from Massachusetts for sales-tax-free shopping. Jim remained chained for about an hour, holding a sign urging people to "Cut the chains of statism. --freestateproject.org". Compatriots in the Free State Project handed out flyers explaining the project and held signs:"

Burning Away Our Liberties
Written by bigpig
Saturday, 08 January 2005
FMeekins: "As many have no doubt heard by now, the nutcase that set himself on fire in front of the White House was a government informant. From his actions, makes you wonder what else he might have been on the government payroll to do or manipulated into possibly doing by his Machiavellian handlers.

Interestingly, these pyrotechnics weren’t the only street theater that transpired less than a week after the reopening of Pennsylvania Avenue to pedestrians. Those bent on fostering a nationwide siege-mentality did not have to wait long for the excuse they needed to turn the people’s boulevard into an off-limits thoroughfare once again.

Some will respond that, in this age of terrorism, we must accept changes to the way of life to which we were accustomed to in less dangerous times. Maybe so, but unless those alterations are in accord with clearly defined and publicly agreed upon rules, these measures are little more than a grab for power no matter how those in positions of authority make the situation sound."

Broadcast Charity Drives Full Of Something Other Than Stuffi
Written by bigpig
Saturday, 18 December 2004
FMeekins: "Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are noted for their many traditions. Turkeys and football, decking the halls and all that stuff.

There is also the less noble tradition of conspicuous feigned compassionate charity on the part of local broadcast news outlets and the shame these glory hogs like to spread around during the holiday season in an attempt to lavish praise upon themselves as embodiments of enlightened progressive attitudes. However, in the light of such efforts, it would seem neither commonsense nor critical observation rank among the virtues heralded by these activist newsmen."

Unwrapping Innocence
Written by bigpig
Sunday, 05 December 2004
"Earlier this year, I wrote a column about the impropriety of airing prophylactic advertisements during Saturday morning children’s programming. Aficionados of the moral debauchery into which our nation is descending snapped classic animation is no longer directed at young children but rather towards libertine post-adolescents with less control over their urges than barnyard animals. Some unable to muster a rational argument instead chose to disparage my personal appearance.

Even if the viewing public must concede dominion of old favorites to these reprobates, does that mean we must stand by and yield all quality programming to those who want to drag us down to their level?"

Not Your Granny’s Presbyterians
Written by bigpig
Saturday, 27 November 2004
FMeekins: "Among Christian denominations, Presbyterians have a reputation for sobriety and decorum. However, as denominations and churches try to out do one another in the rush to appear the most “authentic” and “with it”, that noble reputation might be coming to an end.

On the website of Covenant Theological Seminary of the Presbyterian Church in America is a section where websurfers can listen to audio files addressing a wide variety of issues and topics. Finding one on tattooing, I thought I’d hear a rational discourse against this popular form of personal disfigurement since Presbyterians are renowned for their skill at argumentation...."

Stop Arlen Specter from Blocking Conservative Pro-gun Judges
Written by bigpig
Tuesday, 09 November 2004
You would have thought John Kerry had won an astounding Electoral College victory, rather than George W. Bush.

But, within 24 hours after the presidential results were in, there was the Senate Judiciary Committee heir-apparent, Pennsylvania liberal Republican Arlen Specter, warning Bush not to make conservative nominations to the U.S. Supreme court.

The "code words" used by Specter centered around abortion, but the message was clear: "No pro-gun conservatives need apply." Read the rest...Take Action!

You Know You Live in a BLUE STATE If...
by: jbryant_13 (53/M/Ohio) 11/04/04 09:28 am

1) You believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.

2) You are against capital punishment, but for abortion on demand, in short you support protecting the guilty and killing the innocent.

3) You believe that the same public school teacher who can't teach 4th graders how to read is qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

4) You believe that trial lawyers are selfless heroes and doctors are overpaid.

Neither Party Adequately Addresses Issue Of Moral Decline
Written by bigpig
Monday, 01 November 2004
"Yet another election season is upon us, and through it, Americans hope to play a part in influencing the course of this great nation. But despite the solemnity of the decision facing the country, neither of the two main parties will do much in stemming the downward moral spiral griping the United States.

In enunciating his position on gay marriage, Vice President Dick Cheney has said people ought to be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want.

Really? Does that mean, if I can find a dozen women amicable to the arrangement, that I can form a harem that caters to my every whim, allowing me to lead a life of luxury since such a situation would allow me to sit back and send a number out to work, a number to tend house, and a number to shower affection on when in the mood."

Heinz Hag Thinks She’s Superior To Average American
Written by bigpig
Sunday, 24 October 2004
Often libertarians and conservatives studying the decline of liberty throughout the West speak of an elite that rules over the masses with an iron hand while themselves ignoring the regulations they impose upon the rest of us lower down the social ladder that they hold in contempt. This conclusion is usually drawn by comparing what the snobs in positions of leadership expect from the rest of us and the lax manner in which they themselves live.

Usually, analysts of our contemporary situation have to wait awhile from the time a member of the overclass makes a proclamation and the evidence of their hypocrisy bubbles up to the light of day. However, it seems this election season political observers won’t have to travel far or wait long to see this social dynamic in operation in relation to Teresa Heinz Kerry. Read the rest...

Much "Aboo" About Nothing
Written by bigpig
Saturday, 23 October 2004
Often the sincere piety and religious devotion of Southerners is worthy of admiration, but methinks too much stink is being made down south about Halloween falling on a Sunday. On the one hand you have spook-day purists insisting what an affront it would be to move the celebration back to Saturday evening, which has often been the tradition when Halloween fell on a Sunday. Farenheit 9/11, Meet Celsius 41.11
Written by bigpig
Tuesday, 19 October 2004
aocasio sent us this: Has anyone seen links for this? Amazing; simply amazing. When all the hype about “Fahrenheit 9/11” hit the airwaves this summer, I wondered how that blowhard got away with his lies and when right-minded people would have a rebuttal. Well, here it is.

“Celsius 41.11” is a perfect response to Moore’s “documentary,” in that it exposes just how divided the anti-war activists are and how they really missed the message from the war. Example: on the trailer, some woman is talking about how she would want a dictator who gives her free healthcare or free education. Great, but what about living in fear of torture or execution, or not being able to speak your own opinion, or being forced to live in poverty as your “benevolent leader” squanders all your money on himself and his repugnant sub-human sons? I’m sure this is just one example out of many in this film. I urge everyone to take a look at the site and check out the trailer: http://www.celsius4111.com. If anything, it will make it even more apparent that Moore and other liberal blowhards really got it wrong.

Count me first in line this Friday, October 22!
