Mason Weaver was a sixties radical who got a degree in Black Studies at Merritt College in Oakland, CA and learned Swahili.
Today, Weaver is a conservative, and students can get in a whole bunch of trouble just for posting a flyer announcing his appearance on campus.
Just ask Steve Hinkle, a member of the California Polytechnic State University College Republicans. Hinkle tried to post a flier promoting Mason Weaver's speech about the topic of his book, It's OK To Leave The Plantation. Some black students who were having a Bible study in the multicultural center (savor the irony, please) confronted Hinkle when he attempted to post his flyer.
The students at the Bible study called the police because they were offended. (These students need to do a study of 1 Corinthians 13, especially verse five that says in part: "[love] does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered.")
Well, since the folks in the Bible study apparently have not gotten that far in their reading, they pressed charges before the university's Office of Judicial Affairs. Hinkle was subsequently found guilty of disruption of the campus education process. Hinkle has refused to write a letter of apology following his conviction and has been threatened with not receiving his diploma.
It seems that he has not understood what was obvious to the Vice President of Student Affairs who said the presence of a white Republican near black students made for a "collision of experience" that Mr. Hinkle was "naive" not to realize.
What a tribute to higher education! Students in a multicultural center, studying the Bible, are steadfast in refusing to accommodate another view they do not understand.
What is it they did not understand? As Mason Weaver explained to me during my interview of him on my radio show Live Fire, the plaintiffs did not understand that they were "on the plantation." They have been brainwashed by the government schools and the welfare system into defending the status quo of dependency; a dependency orchestrated by black shakedown artists such as Jesse Jackson.
Weaver explained that the family was often broken up under slavery. The welfare state has been even more destructive of the family. But rather than dependency on the slave master in the South, the families headed by single moms are dependent on Washington.
No one is responsible on the dependency plantation. Every bad thing that happens is somebody else's fault. "We have drive-by shootings and look to the white gun manufacturers and not at the black trigger men," says Weaver. "We cannot control the white manufacturers or the [drug] smugglers, but we can control our children. The civil rights movement was about who would control our children. But just like the children of Israel that escaped Egypt, some longed to return to Pharaoh."
Weaver explains that it is this inculcated mentality of dependence that has so strongly inclined the black community to support gun control. To be a gun owner and expect to have to defend oneself is to make a significant departure from the plantation. Freedom requires us to understand that calling 911 should be done only after the assailant has been shot, apprehended or chased off -- when the danger to the victim is over.
