Michigan Criminal Law MCL750.508 prohibits possession of any radio able to receive police frequencies in a vehicle.

The law carries a 1 yr.Jail sentence and a $500.00 fine

I was nearly arrested for this law in Jan. Frisked (twice) placed in the rear of a police car, while my car was searched for other contraband.

This law is enforced. 62 County prosecutors confirmed if arrested they will prosecute.

Michigan Residents can apply (no cost) to the Michigan State Police for a permit.

OUT of State tourists CANNOT.

AS soon as a tourist drives across the state line with a scanner in their car,they are considered a criminal and prey to the police agencies of Michigan.

The Radio cannot even be in your luggage in a locked trunk.

Their only recourse, if they wish to bring a scanner into Michigan Legally is to Be ''forced'' to Join another hobby HAM RADIO, they are exempt.

Radios of this type are used not just for monitoring Police activity, but also Aviation,Rail,Marine,Local Govenment,NASCAR. etc.. any FCC bandwidth.

Thousands of RACE fans bring scanners into Michigan to enjoy NASCAR races and the pit crew communications.

Every one a Criminal.

I wish this law to be modified to reflect the radio hobbies of today.

We as a country are slowly seeing our rights and privilages as citizens of the U.S. eroded until all that will be left for us to listen to is static....and perhaps the sound of prison doors locking behind us...

The only force required to combat this erosion is the force of reason...We (Michiganders) and YOU as potential tourists (Put Pen to Paper)...Make your feelings known...Write Michigan's legislature...Tourism...and State Government.

Express your displeasure of this law, Today it is ''police scanners'' , tomorrow ''Paul Harvey'', QVC,fatty food etc...Stem the tide, Little by little we have lost our freedoms, little by little we may gain them back.

If you get a ham license you are licensed to carry a scanner in a vehicle.

this law no longer applies unless you are using it in furtherance of a crime. the law has recently been changed.

Actually was born and raised in MI and granted its a great state and it will always be my home, but when i was 19 i was convicted of having a scanner in my vehicle and i wasnt using it to commit a crime, i was basically kicked out at home and all of my things were with me in my vehicle, i had NO PRIORS!!!! and still young and scared i was found guilty in a court of law for a law that GOES AGAINST MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS!!!! I however now live in North Dakota and i thought because of the misdeamenor they LABELED me with would always effect my pursuit in law enforcement, but it hasnt however its been mentioned a thousand times by the Sheriff since i started this job. So for those with the label CRIMINAL for having a scanner in their vehicle and want to pursue law enforcement careers, dont worry there is nothing to worry about but there will never be an end to the nightmare because someone will always remind you, you will be forever questioned!!!!
